Research and Writing Position

We’re looking for an amazing researcher and writer for eCommerceFuel: someone who can go deep on a topic, pull out the most important bits and organize them clearly and concisely for our members.

Specifically, you’d be:

  • Doing in-depth research on topics, using both public sources and the 10+ years of discussion archives in our community forums to compile robust outlines and final pieces.
  • Turning your research into organized outlines and how-to guides on topics applicable to eCommerce business owners. Examples would include advanced strategies for hiring, setting up compensation plans, guides to growing on Tik Tok, how to go about picking ERP software and more.
  • Repurposing podcast interviews to pull out the most interesting and/or actionable 5% of content for use in tweets, videos and forum discussions.

You’re a Great Fit If:

  • You’re an incredible researcher and find unnatural amounts of pleasure in organizing information. The most important part of this role is collecting information from many sources, identifying what’s most important, distilling it down and conveying it concisely.
  • You’re a competent writer. Again, the most important facet of this role is the research component. But you’ll also need to publish your summarized findings to our Community. It don’t need to be Shakespeare but your organized findings do need to be presented clearly. And if you’re a great writer, all the better.
  • You have a background in eCommerce or, at least, business. A lot of what you’ll be researching and writing about focuses on business, eCommerce and online marketing.
  • You’re an existing freelancer or contractor, or comfortable operating that way. While this role could turn into a in-house role down the road we’re looking for someone as a freelancer/contractor to start.
  • You understand SEO and are comfortable with basic keyword research and on-page optimization.

Why Consider It?

  • Learn from savvy entrepreneurs. The average member in our Community runs a business doing $4M in annual revenues. If you’re interested in upping your business chops it’s a great place to hang out.
  • We’re looking for a long-term partner. If you do amazing work we’ll be looking to work with you regularly going forward.
  • Tap into an unmatched primary data source. We have tens of thousands of discussions and 1,200+ members in our Community to pull from as a research library.
  • Freedom to have fun. Our brand voice is fun and cheeky while still serving our professional audience. Want to be slightly irreverent in an article about hiring? Go for it!
  • Help real, established entrepreneurs. Your research and writing will be seen/read/used by legitimate entrepreneurs to solve problems in their businesses. You’ll get immediate feedback from them and appreciation in our two-way forum.

Regular Deliverables for the Role:

  • Once to Twice a Month: An in-depth guide (1,000-2,000 words, although value density is more important than word count) helping store owners understand a topic deeply and/or serving as a roadmap for getting something done. An emphasis on sharing tactics and information clearly and concisely vs. flowery prose. High-level topics to be picked by our team.
  • Two to Four Times a Month: Pull out the most interesting, actionable and useful 5%-10% of content from podcast episodes to use as content for tweets, short videos and blog posts.

  • If that works well we’ll setup a schedule and set of monthly recurring deliverables by Dec 1
